Riley, Charles (2011, May 3) The bin Laden spending spree. CNN NEWS

http://money.cnn.com/2011/05/02/news/economy/security_spending/index.htm

Summary:
This article talks about a period of costs for Bin Laden. For a decade since “911”, U.S government has created a lot of agencies, has hired thousands of new agents to analyze intelligence, and expand security apparatus. All of these actions have been spent 424 of billions dollars to protect America; even $40 billion were spent in a week after “911”. They are all for the one purpose, which is to stop terrorist attacks. Only the budget of 2012 will more than the gross domestic product of 132 countries in 2009. The budgets have been rising, because lawmakers have to accept every budget of war funding and domestic security, so they have to raise the taxes, let citizens to pay the bills. The 14 trillion of debt sets off alarm bells in Washington, they are planning to cut the budget.
Reaction:
There are two big events were happened in a week, which are the royal wedding and the death of Bin Laden. My friends joked that “it’s just like a fairy tale, prince and princess were finally getting together, and the bad guy was died.” Hahahaha… The British just celebrated the wedding, and Americans are definitely will not being behind, they had a big celebration too. However, according to the news, there is a new guy are going to fill in for Laden, so the war of counter-terrorism is not terminated. The costs of security will be continue, the mission of protect America will be continue. Also, this year is the tenth anniversary of “911”, the U.S government should put more attention to the terrorism attack, keep eye on the bad guys, to prevent the tragedy.

Goldman, David, (2011, April 22) How Apple blocks its competition. CNN NEWS.
http://money.cnn.com/2011/04/22/technology/apple_supply_chain/index.htm
Summary:
This article talks about how Apple beats its competitors. Apple’s products are always coming out fast, and give the customers what they want. Because iPad and iPhone are hot sallers, the components such as memory chips, touch screens, image sensors, batteries and the special resins have all been in short suppl. However, Apple still has enough components to complete their production. Other electronics makers have to delay their products’ publications. The advantage of Apple’s supply makes Apple’ products cheaper, and the cheap amazing products must be hot. The huge demands let Apple become one of the world's biggest component purchasers. Also, because Apple’s products are so different, Apple's sourcing strategy can be much more finely tuned than other companies with very disparate products.

Reaction:
Apple reaps all the advantages. They have adequate supplies to make sure they complete productions; they have Apple fans all around the world. That makes Apple become stronger day be day, and no one can beat it. The customers always pay attention and kind of wait for the new generation products coming out. I just start thinking Steve Jobs. Jobs has a legendary career. He created Apple in his garage in 1976. In the next few years, his company achieved success, and earned a lot of money. However, he experienced bad times in 1985. His own company fired him, because the company didn’t run well. But he wasn’t discouraged, and he created a new computer company named NeXT, was soon doing well. Ten years later, Apple almost died, and Jobs came back to Apple, and became the chairman again. Afterwards he put out iMac successfully, and helped Apple survive. Then iBook, iPod, Apple TV, iTunes, iPhone, and iPad, these great products in the world came out one after another. Jobs created an electronics empire with his creation and persistence.

Christie, Les (February 22, 2011) Home prices near 2009 lows and may fall more  CNN News
Summary:
The house price was fall down at the end of 2010. It fell 4.1% compared with 12 months earlier and 1.9% compared with 3months earlier, and it will be continue get lower in the future. The government wants to take away Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the housing market. Without the loan guarantees for mortgages, the private mortgage will hurt home price. The 18 of 20 large cities in the U.S lost housing price for the year; Washington and San Diego posted the only gains. S&P reported that Detroit, Cleveland and Las Vegas, home prices have dropped below their 10 years ago.
Reaction:
Actually I think the housing price falling down is not an evil thing at all. The high housing price caused the Real Estate Bubble, and finally leaded Subprime crisis. So the housing price is suppose to cool down anyway. I just consider the house price in China. The home price in China already extremely expensive, the average incomes need to work over 150 years to buy an apartment, which is incredible. The home price in Beijing is almost 7000 dollar for a square meter. For most people, to buy a apartment is impossible.

University of Rochester (2009, November) Baby Einstein Controversy: Professor offers healthy language alternatives for young children
Medicine and health / psychology and psychiatry
Summery:
This article talks about the way to develops babies’ language ability. The specialist says that the best occasion babies to learn language is when they are infants, and the best way is to interaction with them. The most important point is to communicate with baby. Strong language skills can helps babies’ success in their academy. Also, parents need to be positive, look out what the babies are interested in, and find things that can attract babies.
Reaction:
The news about Walt Disney Company refunded the Baby Einstein videos, and acknowledged that these product were not intended to be educational or promote better brain development among young children, which is shocked me. This short preface tells me how much responsibility should a big company have!  Many years ago people used to think the videos could help baby promote their intelligence, but now people realized it cannot. It is make sense to me. If just let a baby sits in front of a TV, and let him watches videos all the time, it is not good for his personality; he will become autistic, and loss the ability to connect with other people and living in his own world. This is an information age, we need to communicate with each other; like this article tells to us, and it is really helpful to training a person to positive and easy to communicate.
